A tour through Almeria
Laujar de Andarax is one of the many white pueblos in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada! There's lots to do- even without the beach close by! Explore the waterfalls, vineyards and all the beautiful/historic white villages..
La Calahorra Castle, a little gem in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada is worth a visit. It was built between 1509 and 1512, one of the first Italian Renaissance castles outside Italy. In 1922 it was declared a National Monument. You can book your visit to the privately owned castle here.
If you are in Almeria province a tour to the Cabo de Gata is also a must. It's located in the Níjar natural park where outstanding natural beauty and traditional windmills take your breath away!
These "giants" of the winds were strategically positioned, taking advantage of the frequent currents of the wind from the Níjar lands. Milling operations began in the 19th century but decreased throughout the 20th century, until the 70s, when the mills sadly stopped working.
For the natural wine and food lovers, you shouldn't miss out on the wines of the Barranco Oscuro winery. With a height of1300 meters, it is one of the highest vineyards in Europe!
We had a great private tour of the bodega by the owner Manuel Valenzuela! Adults and kids were very happy. Once you've bought some of delicious and unique wine, don't forget to pair it with some great cheeses and hams from the region!
