About Us

Hello there, I am Anja, mother of two girls and the creator of Green Guides, a travel guide to experiences in Spain. 

I was born in a little town in west Germany called Luedinghausen. As a child, I was often outside in nature and loved exploring. The yearly summer holiday with my family reinforced my explorer instinct, which is why I moved to England in 2004 to learn a new language and culture. 

From that point onwards, I have been living abroad ever since and took every opportunity to travel either for business or leisure. After living in various cities in England for 10 years, my husband and I decided to move to Spain -which was a childhood dream - and live in the beautiful city of Barcelona in 2014. 

A year later, we fell in love with the nearby Penedes region, which is also one of Spain’s best wine and cava producing region, having a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) and started exploring some travel experiences away from the Barcelona crowds and bought a weekend house there. 

Due to my connection to nature and due to my studies, work and travels I developed a strong interest in living and travelling more responsibly. During my daily life I try to incorporate a more sustainable life from leaving the car at home more, buying more responsibly, growing my own vegetables to using less plastic! 

During my travels, I try to find accommodations that are run with the environment or their staff in mind, I look for travel experiences that support and involve the local community (making sure that the money I spend goes to them), I go to restaurants that use local and fresh food or I choose destinations that are not overcrowded. 

So why Green Guides?
With Green Guides, I want to share my travel experiences in Spain (especially Catalunya) and give you some tricks and tips on how to travel and live more responsibly, as in my opinion, more responsible and authentic experiences are more enjoyable and nourishing and make me happier.
